love ‘em or hate ‘em, you have to respect cats.

When a seemingly normal old lady threw a neighbourhood cat in a wheelie bin recently, it just highlighted the lingering, fear and resentment of members of our community who happen to be cats. I researched the phenomenon of cat hate once, and it dates back to medievil Europe where everyone reckoned everyone else was a witch. Not content with accusing each other of being in league with Satan, they decided that cats, who cruise around at night, have eyes that glow when you shine your lantern on...

special guest star with our old pal keenan.

When we last checked in with Keenan, he was rocking Katy Perry's Teenage Dream. He got millions of hits, became a youtube sensation, and attracted exactly the expected amount of attention from the internet's vicious bullies. Well he's brushed it off, focussed on the fun and taken on lip-synching challenges from Train to Usher and back again. One very canny superstar has recognised an opportunity in young Keenan, but I'm not mad at him because it fits. His homophobic tweets of late haven't...

It’s gonna be a great day! SNL vid.

Change is in the air, must be spring! I for one am working very hard to believe every day is gonna be a great day, this morning for example, my first thought upon waking was "Can I fit in a nap today?" Upon a quick run-thru of my mental diary, the happy answer was "Yes!" That was enough for me to determine that today is indeed gonna be a great day. Here's a little something to put a pep in your step, if you need one. I don't because I'm having a nap later, but I've watched it about 15...

DWTS first same-sex couple, brought to you by Israel!

The celebrity is an openly gay sports journo by the name of Gili Shem-Tov, and in a surprise twist revealed on the first episode of the season, she was paired with a female dancer. I'm not shocked by this development, because I remember watching as Isreal won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1998 with "Viva La Diva" by transsexual artist Dana International. Danawent on to sell millions of albums in and is currently a judge on Israeli Pop Idol. Tel Aviv, I read today, prides itself on being...

Another great giving idea.

From another email, thanks so much Stacey. Message Body: Hi Meshel, I stumbled across this lovely idea this morning at my local library and thought it may be of interest to you, knowing that volunteering/charitable works is dear to your heart: http://www.moretonbay.qld.gov.au/discover.aspx?id=75220 Apparently if you take in any new children's book to any of the Moreton Bay Regional Libraries they will pass it on to the Smith Family to give to underpriviliged kiddies for Christmas...I've...

Some great ways to give.

This email came through over the weekend, thanks so much Liz, I love them! Hi Meshel, Absolutely love your I Can Give page and thought that there are two amazing organisations you might be able to link to. I am a "reader" with the Pyjama Foundation and have been for nearly four years. Us "Pyjama Angels" go to the homes of foster children and read to them and with them once a week. Foster kids are usually way behind in their reading as they don't have that lovely thing of being read to as...

I Like Adam Gilchrist.

I'm no a big one for sport. Cricket in particular shits me to death because it's so boring and goes forever and reminds me of Christmas Hols from school when all I wanted to do was chill out with the dog on the couch and there was nothing on TV. Now I've met two cricket players, Matt Haydon and and Adam Gilchrist and they are both delightful. Gilly told me a great story off-air about India. I'm fascinated by India, desperate to go, blah, blah, blah so I was pestering him for info. Specifically...

This ain’t right Keira.

Keira Knightley has denied she's anorexic for years. Her favourite defence is that anorexia runs in her family, having afflicted both her mother and Grandmother, so she knows what it's about, and would never submit to it. Well this pic was taken a couple of days ago and she is thinner than ever. I'm not one of those women who obsesses about these things I promise you, but the glorification of Keira in her current state as "beautiful" is really disturbing me now. Her jawline has been sharp for...

New conan.

In less than a month Conan O'Brien's new show will finally air in the US, and hopefully in Australia soon after. Solidifying his position as the guy who insists upon being interesting where he could totally just sit down and relax, Conan is pushing through a very cool publicity campaign. There will be 37 different Conan promos during the Major League Baseball playoffs without repeating an ad once, and this big budget promo is playing before movies in cinemas all over America as we speak. Every...

Karl Pilkington is an idiot abroad.

Karl Pilkington is a real person, and I know that because radio is a very small world, and a couple of guys I work with, have worked with him. So rare and wonderful a jewel is Karl that his very existence is to some unfathomable. That's not how the guys at work describe him however. Commercial radio is a very macho world where nobody ever eats a steak or drinks a beer, but "smashes the arse out of them," so a funny little fellow like Karl remains an oddity to some. Those guys raise their eyebrows...
